Join us in Bristol for an interesting look at the new Unified English Braille standard.
We’ll explore the potentially huge benefits in all English speaking countries using the same Braille code, with inter library lending, simplified computer translation and reduced ambiguity to name but a few. But we’ll also examine the challenges – how will schools, publishers and transcription houses make a smooth transition, and what does the change mean for adult Braille readers at home?
James Bowden, chair of the UK Braille coding and standards group and Braille expert with the RNIB, will be guiding us through the new standard – dispelling myths and answering questions, as well as giving us physical examples to compare and uncovering how much of a change it really is.
