The Braille Bar
Jenny will be helping us brush up our Braille skills. Whether you’re learning Braille for the first time, or want to return after a few years gap, this session will equip you with the skills you need to become a more confident braillist. Jenny will be basing the course on the popular RNIB “Fingerprint” syllabus. There’ll be plenty of chances to ask questions and share tips, as well as a short quiz. Although we’re aiming this evenings session at beginner to intermediate Braillists, we hope that all Braillists can come away from the meeting having learned something new.
Clever Cooking
We’ll be covering store cupboard essentials, and talking through a simple and delicious recipe for bolognese which will be available on the website.
Mindfulness Session
This evening, Laurent Cadet de Fontinay will be focussing on sharing strategies for coping with the uncertainty and disruption many of us are feeling during the current pandemic and lockdown.
Stay Safe: Stay Connected
This week we’ll be discussing accessible television and streaming, carrying on from last week’s session on reading.
The Braille Bar
We’ll be starting with a Q&A session to address any questions you might have about braille or braille technologies. We’ll then finish the alphabet that we started last week.
Clever Cooking
Emma’s got her hands on an Instant Pot, and has test driven it on a few recipes, so she’ll be telling us all how she got on! We’ll also be discussing the Bolognese recipe we’ve been trying over the last week.
Mindfulness Session
This evening, Laurent will be bringing together everything we’ve learned over the last six weeks, and presenting us with a set of strategies and coping mechanisms we can implement in our day to help us respond mindfully to the challenges we face.
Stay Safe: Stay Connected
Our weekly Zoom call.
As we’ve now run seven of these meetings, this evening we want to go back to the community and find out what you want from us.
The Braille Bar
We finished the alphabet last week, so this week we’ll be starting with punctuation and contractions.
Clever Cooking
This week we’ll be focussing on labelling in the kitchen. It would be a disaster to tip a tin of custard to your curry in place of tomatoes, so Emma will share some labelling ideas, from Braille to rubber bands. Whether you’re wondering how to tell jars of spices apart, or want to make sure you have your batched frozen meals marked with the correct date and description, we’re hoping this Clever Cooking session will boost your confidence in the kitchen.
