We’re now in a position to offer a free online group focussing on fostering resilience and responding mindfully to the Coronavirus outbreak. The sessions are free to join and will last around an hour. The course will focus on strategies to deal effectively with anxieties and difficulties you might be feeling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will be talking about the experience and challenges of shopping for essential supplies, plus hearing an update on all the latest resources available for blind and partially sighted people during the lock-down. We will also be inviting your questions and suggestions about what the Braillists Foundation can do for the community.

We’ll be running an open conference call for visually impaired people to discuss how social distancing policies affect us in particular. This week we’ll be focussing on hobbies and activities. We’re intending to start regular virtual groups covering a range of activities and interests, and hope to discuss this further with you.

We’ll be hosting an open forum to talk through the ways current social distancing policy is affecting us as blind and partially sighted people and share tips and coping strategies. We’ll also be announcing our weekly food and cooking group, as well as our Braille refresher sessions, both of which will begin next week.

The Braille Bar: Opening Night

Do you want to learn braille but are unsure where to begin? Are you familiar with braille but think your Braille skills could use a polish? Are you a keen braille reader wanting to connect with other braille enthusiasts? Are you seeking tips for using a piece of braille equipment? Our Braille Bar sessions are an opportunity to share tips and advice, brush up on skills and talk with other braille users, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced Braillist. We’ll be running the sessions every week, so we hope to build a real community around the Braille Bar.

Clever Cooking

We’ll be talking about accessible equipment, utensils and techniques. We’ll chat store cupboard essentials, and Emma will walk us through a recipe for Spaghetti Bolognese to try over the coming week.

Our 4th free mindfulness session on responding mindfully to the COVID-19 pandemic. Laurent Cadet de Fontinay, a licenced counselling psychologist, runs the course, which we hope will provide you with some of the tools and skills you need to help you through the coming weeks.

We’ll be discussing staying entertained during the lockdown as a visually impaired person, from books to boxsets. If you have any questions or ideas about keeping entertained during these unsettling times, the call will be your perfect chance to share them with the community!
